Write protection was first used in the 1950’s by the corporation IBM, they began to use it on magnetic tape reels which needed a plastic ring in order to write on the tape. Later write protection was used on audio cassettes, videocassettes, and floppy disk; now it is used on USB flash drives/microSD/SD cards. Write protect is used to modify a file or disk so that the data cannot be moved, edited, or erased. In many cases it is important to have write protected devices to prevent from data being stolen, deleted, or changed.
There are several ways to enable write protection. One of the most common and easiest way to write protect is by using the switch to lock an USB drive or SD card. When the switch is locked users will not be able to modify, delete the contents on the card, and data is safe from any malware. Another way to write protect is by having an internal lock which can be temporary or permanent.
The U-Reach Intelligent 9 Golden Series USB Duplicator and the Intelligent 9 Golden Series Combo SD/MicroSD Duplicator offers the ability to write protect. The U-Reach Intelligent 9 Golden Series Combo SD/MicroSD Duplicator has the option to perform temporary or a permanent write protection. Temporary write protection allows data to be locked onto a USB, microSD, or SD card; but then can later be unlocked only with the U-Reach duplicator. Permanent write protection has the ability to lock information on to a micro SD or SD card and cannot be unlocked by any machine. In the data solution market U-Reach is the only one that offers hardware write protection for microSD and SD cards.
